IGCSE Language Practice- Description

For IGCSE International Exam we get useful practices as to get an idea of how the exam is going to be. In this case I will present my activity of descriptive analysis, in which I have to analysed why the author uses such words to describe someone or something. There are more questions in this part of the exam, directive writing and summary, always based in one or more texts provided to us.
In this case the text was about an awful road trip and the task was to select words and phrases from some descriptions from the text and explain how the writer created effects by using language.

The author makes Elsie Clinch such a persistent and passionate woman by the use of different words and phrases. For instance ‘Elsie Clinch stomped down the steps in sturdy leather boots (...)’ The author uses stomped’ as a powerful action as to show what a confident and strong woman she is. It also can be seen in ‘Before sweeping imperiously’ the author uses the word ‘sweep’, which gives the sensation of how determined she walks and how dramatic she is. Thought the paragraph we can notice she is very expressive and that gets ‘deflated’. However, she quickly gets alright and shows she is lethal when she is angry.
The road in paragraph eight is shown as a very dangerous and harmful road. Is highly hazardous to the old bus, as we can read. ‘(...) the bus was labouring up the road which snaked sky wards (...)’ ; ‘The road surface deteriorated’;‘Vigorous weeds had (...)’ sound as numerous and mountainous ones ‘The gradient and the uneven surface finally brought the minibus to a halt. ’ Using the word ‘minibus’ made all the path seem enormous and majestic.
